The Mikado (1939 film)

The Mikado is a 1939 British musical comedy film based on Gilbert and Sullivans comic opera of the same name. Shot in Technicolor, the film stars Martyn Green as KoKo, Sydney Granville as PoohBah, the American singer Kenny Baker as NankiPoo, and Jean Colin as YumYum. Many of the other leads and choristers were or had been members of the DOyly Carte Opera Company.

The Mikado premiered in London onJanuary 1939 before opening in the United States onMay. A decade later, onJuly 1949, the film was rereleased in New York City.
